Thane the Silky Shark Demon

Hello again, I promised a picture ^^

This is Thane, my own exploration into merpeople, well part anyway, can't forget my eel boy ^^

Thane, as you can tell is a shark like being, and a member of a rare species of water based demon.
They have the special ability to survive being submerged in water, even thrive and live in it compared to other demons, who will die if in water to long.   They also have the power to switch between different forms, as seen above.  A shark demon actually has three forms depending on the conditions.  In fresh water with very little salt this breed of demon tend to grow to almost human sized proportions (torso area)  
Max size depends on the individual, with males often growing bigger then females, but on average males can be about 12 feet or so from head to tail and females to 10.

However in salt water conditions where the salt to water ratio is decently high it triggers a huge size increase.  In this event it is common for a shark demon to grow to a massive size, on average for males it can be up to 55ft or more!  With only a 5 foot size difference between females and males.
Interestingly changing water conditions causes these rapid size and form changes within a course of about an hour, although fins and other features won't change between environments.

Most shark demons live their whole lives in packs and communities in the deep oceans so therefore stay in their larger forms most of their lives, only going into fresh water at certain times of the year, or when food becomes scarce.
What a lot of their kind do not know is they have a land form to.  

This form is triggered when one of these beings are taken from the water and left to dry for a certain amount of time, which varies depending on the age and size of the individual.  This form looks a lot like their fiery land and sky cousins.  
They develop working legs and wing like sails against their backs that stretch all the way to the fins that protrude from the base of their ankles.
These sails lack any ability to fly, although can allow one to glide small distances.
They can regain their normal form by staying in enough water to rehydrate them, this can take a couple of hours at times. 
They also have these odd little airsacks within their bodies that they can either swallow water into or air to allow them to sink or move in the water.  The entrance to these airsacks are located under their tongues and its similar to another throat.  Some of them, including Thane might tuck away fish or small friends into them to keep them safe or save them for later.

They neither gain claws, spines or tails similar to their cousins, but these don't seem to hinder them in the least with their movements.
Interestingly these demon breeds act very unlike one would expect for a subspecies of this kind.  While their land and sky cousins are on general quite aggressive and somewhat headstrong these water ones don't follow that trend, and neither do many actually act like sharks.

Most are actually scarily calm and well natured, even playful, at times many act like more akin to dolphins then sharks.  They don't even mind humans so much, some even help with human fishers to help them gather food...although the biggest share always goes to to the demon who decided to 'lend' their help.
Warning though, don't anger these demons, you don't want to make them angry, you'll most likely find the sharp end of their teeth that way >.<

Their one of those species that could easily eat someone if they wanted to.

I could go into another whole list about their inner workings, including how they swim and how they stay boyant in water...but this list is already getting freakishly long so I'll hold off on that for now


Thane above is considered a bit more cheeky then kind compared to some others.  That said he's still one of the nicer ones you could find.  He likes to mess around with humans a LOT, but unless made mad he'll never seriously hurt someone.

He's considered a little odd compared to his kind.  He's a breed of demon called a Silky Shark, know for this because, while the tails of most sharks are rough and hard his skin is actually silky smooth and soft pretty much everywhere.  He got teased a lot for that when he was young, that and his unusual solid black colouring on his tail.
When he was little this teasing drove him into shallow waters, where he got caught in a old fisherman's net left suspended on a large rock.
He got stuck in that at high tide, and was stuck there for many hours.  When the side went out the poor kid got stuck out in the open air for the first time, which tends to be very painful.
In this happening though, about an hour after being stuck in the air, thinking he was going to dry out and die he found out about his third form.

He was still stuck though, only getting rescued by a old man on a small fishing boat that passed close by.  

From then on out Thane regularly would go onto shore as he grew up, fascinated by the whole new world he could experience.  
However most of his kind don't think much of him as he is still considered a child, and it doesn't help that he's somewhat immature with his antics and jokes.

he does have a good heart though...just...don't tick him off...he's got big teeth
